In the heart of Northern Ireland you will find Lough Neagh, the largest lake in the British Isles. Lough Neagh captivates visitors with its tranquil atmosphere, un-spoilt scenery, secluded bays and skyward views. The Lough is a haven for wildlife with many viewpoints around the shoreline. There is so much to see and do from history and heritage; visitor attractions to land and water based activities. The Maid of Antrim is now on the water for passenger boats day trips and the Lough’s two main islands can also be explored on the Trostan and Island Warrior. Ardboe Cross
Ardboe Cross

Description

Ardboe Cross is a national monument on the shores of Lough Neagh dating from the 10th century and is believed to be the first high cross in Ulster. Standing 18.5ft high with arms of 3.5ft wide, its 22 panels depict various biblical scenes; Old Testament biblical cravings can be seen on east side, whilst New Testament cravings are on the West . Also on site are the remains of a church and abbey, which was founded by St Colman in 590 and the Church is believed to have been built in the 16th Century.

The facility offers a restaurant, kids play area, picnic sites and the Ballyronan Wood Nature Trail. This location lends itself to various outdoor activities and pursuits, and the marina is ideal for any watersports enthusiast. The area also hosts many events and festivals, including rallies, and the popular Lough Neagh Triathlon.

This quiet scenic pathway follows the Toome Canal to its starting point on the shores of Lough Neagh. Enjoy the stunning views over the Lough from a purpose built viewing platform, dander through the Silvereel wood or simply rest a while on the Silvereel seat - designed and created by the Woodland Trust and Members of the local community.
